Product Description

This lens has a large aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range, a minimum focusing distance of 20cm (7.9") and a maximum magnification of 1: 3, making it ideal for close-up photography.Specially designed to suit the characteristics of digital SLR cameras this lens provides a high level of optical performance. Its design incorporates both glass-mold and hybrid aspherical lens technology which offers superior peripheral brightness, extremely high image quality as well as a compact and lightweight construction.Special Low Dispersion (SLD) and Extraordinary Low Dispersion (ELD) glass elements provide excellent correction of color aberrations. The super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, a common problem with digital cameras. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. An inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for using the petal-type lens hood (supplied) plus circular polarizing filters.

rated 5 out of 5 Awesome lens
by Ismael , 2007-07-30

I've been using this lens for a little more than a month now and I'm very happy with it.

I use it for weddings, portraits, landscape, and pretty much everything I do. It never comes off my camera. I'm using it with my D80 and I've had no problems at all.

I'm very impressed with the quality and performance of this lens.

rated 5 out of 5 Great Lens. Highly recommend.

Just received this gem and am very happy that I went with it. I have a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and love it. So, I thought I would try Sigma again. Needed a sharp low light zoom with a semi wide angle for weddings, and presto, this lens fits the bill. I can also take macro shots, which greatly improves the score on this lens. The shots so far have been very sharp with amazing contrast. Only ding for sigma lenses is the stupid lens cap, that does not have the inner grips, so if you use a hood, you have to take it off to remove the lens cap. Simple fix sigma, get with the program. Also, a comparable lens for Nikon is the 17-55 f2.8 which I do not own since it is about $1200 vs the 400 I paid for this, so I have to assume I got a better deal for my needs.
