Panasonic DMC-FZ20S (R) Reviews

rated 5 out of 5 Best Camera I have owned - long term use
by M. Sirrine from CT, USA, 2007-12-25

I bought this camera from Circuit City in September 2004. I have been using it for many years, it is both a great camera and very reliable. I estimate that I have taken over 20,000 shots with this camera since purchased.

It is great in almost any situation. Works perfectly outdoors and in bright situations. It could be better in low-light situations, however there seems to be very few digital camers that do work well in low light, except the ones with a very large sensor.

Works great for scenery and fast moving shots outdoors, such as capturing athletes in motion.

I have been considering upgrading to the Panasonic DMC-FZ30 or DMC-FZ50, but I do not think there is any compelling reason to do so. In fact, after reading the multitude of reviews on my model and the other two, I think the DMC-FZ20 may actually take better pictures with less noise because of the Venus II processor introducing less noise than the Venus III version.

So I recently bought a hot-shoe mounted flash and I am sticking with this winner for a while longer. Co-incidently, I purchased a three-year service plan with the camera, but have never needed it.

This camera offers outstanding value for the money.

Horrible in low light. Not intuitive. OK pictures but nothing to rave about. Shutter reasonably fast. Camera died in 1.5 years and was considered unrepairable by service center and Panasonic was completley unmoved. Avoid this camera. Many better choices for the money.
